Neil has over 16 years of experience in consumer and business-to-business marketing and has worked in design, financial services, utilities and professional services marketing, his last positions being with Burges Salmon LLP, Clarke Willmott and Beachcroft LLP.
Neil worked for 3 years in graphic design as a business development manager and was instrumental in securing contracts with Friends Provident, Welsh Water and the National Rivers Authority, among others, and worked on the launch of Orange.
He moved into financial services in 1994 working for the general insurance arm of Eagle Star. Over four years he held various roles, managing teams responsible for a wide variety of marketing communications projects and overseeing a budget in excess of £1.5m. His teams were instrumental in the development of a corporate identity branding exercise and the implementation of literature review projects.
His next move in 1999 took him into the utilities sector, where he worked for two years for SWALEC, the Cardiff-based gas and electricity company. He managed the company's marketing relationship with the NSPCC, a tri-party customer retention programme, multi-channel marketing campaigns to attain and retain customers and personally lead a brand review project.
In 1991 he joined Burges Salmon LLP as Marketing Manager with responsibility for managing a team of eight in delivering tactical marketing campaigns. He was responsible for marketing planning for key teams in the firm, oversaw numerous successful business pitches on a firm-wide basis and built relationships with professional bodies and business organisations.
In January 2004 he joined Clarke Willmott as Business Development Manager with responsibility for sector-based business and marketing planning, developing client care programmes and promoting the use of Client Relationship Management systems. His key achievements included the introduction of a review process to nurture relationships with ‘crown jewel' clients.
In July 2005 he joined Beachcroft LLP (formerly Beachcroft Wansbroughs) as Head of Marketing Services and Events. He oversaw the annual marketing planning and budget process with overall management responsibility for the firmwide marketing budget of £1.7 million. He was personally responsible for improving methodologies to increase efficiency, reduce costs and improve effectiveness that contributed to increases in the firm's turnover (10%) and profitability (15%) between 2005 and 2007.
He has played an active role in the PM Forum since 2006 and is currently chairman of the South West Region. He continues to work for the Bristol Business Group supporting the NSPCC, he is a volunteer member of the committee that organizes the Run for the Future in support of the Bristol Urological Institute Prostate Cancer Appeal, and is a member of the marketing committee for Hotwells primary school in Bristol .
